National Biodiversity Center
Grounds for Establishment
- The National Biodiversity Center was established to ensure the systematic conservation and management of biodiversity and the sustainable use of biological resources, in accordance with Article 17, Paragraph 2 of the Act on the Conservation and Use of Biological Diversity.
- The National Institute of Biological Resources was tasked with operating the National Biodiversity Center under Article 16, Paragraph 3 of the Enforcement Decree of the said Act.
Key Responsibilities

Facilitating information sharing across Biodiversity Centers under different ministries for the management of the integrated clearing-house mechanisms (CHM)

Establishing and maintaining the CBD-CHM KOREA

Building partnerships with agencies, institutes and international organizations related to biological resources

Overseeing and the work of Biodiversity Centers under different ministries
- Collecting and managing data on biodiversity and biological resources
- Monitoring the utilization of biological resources, including their deposit, registration, assessment and distribution
- Developing listings of biological resources
- Monitoring the export/import of alien species
- Monitoring the export/import and outbound/inbound transfer of biological resources
- Building partnerships with organizations related to biological resources
- Monitoring the conservation and restoration of biological resources
- Monitoring the status of biological resources native to Korea being used overseas.

Developing statistics and issuing publications on the sustainable use of biodiversity and biological resources
- Status of biological resources in Korea
